The Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society is proud to celebrate Noah Webster’s 250th birthday (born October 16, 1758).  Webster is best known for writing the American Dictionary, but he also advocated for universal education, the abolition of slavery, and national copyright law.  He published a groundbreaking work on epidemics, edited dozens of publications, and wrote many influential books.

After several years of scheming and planning, NW250 is finally here!  This is a series of community and regional events designed to commemorate Webster’s impact on our American culture and identity.  Working with local organizations, West Hartford citizens, and several foundations, the museum is excited to celebrate Webster’s long-lasting legacy.

From exhibit openings and kids’ programs to the Birthday Festival, the museum and our many partners are giving Noah the party he deserves.  Throughout his life, Webster fought for a united language, government, and culture – and he continues to affect Americans’ lives today!!!

Please consider becoming a member of the museum, as many of the programs offer great discounts for our members.
