Spelling Bee

Saturday, October 4, 10am & Saturday, October 18, 1pm

Help celebrate Noah Webster’s 250th Birthday by participating in a town-wide Spelling Bee!

The preliminary rounds of the bee will be held Saturday, October 4, 2008, at the West Hartford Public Library located at 20 South Main Street. Participation is open to the first 50 contestants in each age category. The categories are:

Students in grades 3 – 6: arrive at 10:00 a.m. and expect to stay at the library until 11:15 a.m.

Students in grades 7 – 12: arrive at 11:30 a.m. and stay until 12:30 p.m.

Adults (ages 19 – 54): arrive at 1:30 p.m. and stay until 2:30 p.m.

Older and Wiser (ages 55+): arrive at 2:45 p.m. and stay until 4:00 p.m.

The preliminary rounds will be a written spelling test. The top 10 scorers in each category will advance to the final round of the bee to be held on Saturday, October 18 at Town Hall.

Final Round: The final round of the Spelling Bee will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2008, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the West Hartford Town Hall. Rob Kyff, West Hartford’s very own “Word Guy,” will moderate the final rounds of the bee. Winners in each category will receive a $50 gift certificate to Barnes & Noble; 2nd and 3rd place finalists will receive a dictionary.
